Junior Brigade

The Junior Brigade was formed in September 1971 and remains a key part of the Sassafras-Ferny Creek Fire Brigade’s operations.

A key role of the Junior Brigade’s contribution has been to serve as a “training ground” for the firefighters of the future. Unlike many other brigades, the emphasis of our Junior program is very practical; involving essentially the same basic learnings that senior brigade members must undertake.

Every year our junior members take part in a competition day with other neighbouring junior brigades to test the skills they have learned.

Juniors has always been about having fun and the social experience too!

All junior brigade activities are fully supervised by senior firefighters. Junior Leaders must conform to the requirements of the Working With Children Check (WWCC) stipulated by the Department of Justice.

Junior membership is open to young people between the ages of 11 and 16 years. Junior brigade meets each Thursday night during school terms between 7.30pm and 9.30pm.
